SGS & Intertek Inspection for Sugar Shipments

Independent inspection is how a buyer verifies a sugar shipment is exactly what was contracted — without needing to see the mill. It's a cornerstone of safe, scam-resistant trade, and it's how Duna proves product: by inspection, not by exposing the origin.

Why independent inspection matters

In commodity trade you rarely visit the origin. A recognised third party — SGS or Intertek — inspects the cargo at loading and issues an independent certificate. That certificate is what your bank and customs rely on, and it's what lets a serious seller prove product without disclosing its suppliers.

What gets checked

At loading the inspector verifies quality against the contract specification (ICUMSA colour, polarization, moisture, ash, etc.), quantity and weight, packaging and bagging, and the condition of the container or vessel hold. Samples are drawn and sealed for reference.

How it protects the buyer

The inspection is scheduled before shipment, and payment under the DLC is released against the compliant document set — which includes the inspection certificate. If the cargo doesn't meet spec, that surfaces before the vessel sails, not after it arrives.

Inspection — FAQ

Who pays for the inspection?

It depends on the contract and Incoterm, but it is commonly arranged by the seller at loading and can be shared or specified in the SPA. The scope is agreed before shipment.

SGS or Intertek — does it matter?

Both are globally recognised independent inspection agencies. Buyers often nominate one in the contract; the report from either serves the same purpose for banks and customs.

What does the inspection certificate cover?

Quality against the agreed specification (colour, polarization, moisture, etc.), quantity/weight, packaging and the condition of the container or vessel hold at loading.
